I-DEV has advised the Associacion de Productores de Tara (APT) since its inception in 2007 on formalizing its business, training management, accessing growth capital and scaling aggregation and collection of tara, an indigenous pea pod grown in the Andes. APT began with 20 visionary farmers who wanted to build a business-based cooperative model. Today, APT is a $7 million agribusiness and one of the leading global suppliers of tara in the world. APT’s model is often cited as the leading model for the tara industry, and has subsequently been replicated throughout Peru.
