Focus on Sustainable Impact
“I-DEV International is focused on impact and results. We evaluate each one of our engagements as any for-profit investment firm would, based on Return on Investment for both the community and our corporate clients. We even tie our compensation to it.”
Patricia Chin-Sweeney,
Director of Business Development
I-DEV International is unique because we focus not only on developing the initial project strategy, but also on carefully managed, flexible implementation. We ensure impact and results by actively managing each phase of an engagement’s lifecycle, from design through implementation to true sustainability. Additionally, we tie our fee structure to performance, making I-DEV one of the only development firms to link its compensation directly to delivering measurable results. We measure results on each individual project through value created in comparison to capital invested (Return On Investment, or Social Return on Investment).
On all I-DEV project we conduct 3 detailed field studies:
1. An initial baseline field study during the project design phase, which we use as a benchmark
2. An interim field study at the project’s midpoint to assess performance and guide project adjustments
3. A final field study to assess project results and actual impact
These studies are an integral part of I-DEV’s implementation process, and are crucial to developing pilot projects that are both sustainable and scalable.
Tara Cajamarca – Industry Creation in the Peruvian Highlands
I-Dev International, and its partner organizations, Asociación Civil Tierra (ACT), and GTZ, developed this multi-phase initiative that brought indigenous farmers in the Peruvian Highlands and a U.S. based agribusiness together to create a reliable supply chain. The project created a mutually beneficial relationship that enabled the U.S. corporation to expand its market share significantly, and created a multi-million dollar farmer-owned business that increased annual household income by nearly 600%, from $.75 to $4.95 per day.
